Mitras was born on December 6th, 1957, in the northern Maramures, Romania. Ever since he was a little boy his parents, true belivers, put in his heart a passion for God, His Word, for prayer and church. But, during his high-school years , due to the peer-pressure, he gave up all the values his parents invested in him, and walked away from faith.
God called him back in 1975, with the challenge from Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God….” This challenge made him get involved actively and enthusiastically in studying the Word, in preaching, in youth ministry, anything that needed to be done at that time.
The beginning years of the college in Brasov bring him another challenge: Vasile Zubascu, a friend from Maramures introduces him to the new “Second Baptist Church”, which will be, for the years of his academic studies, the context of his spiritual and moral development. All challenges brought about by the persecution of the Secret Police (Securitate, in Romania at that time) and by the leadership of the State University he attended strengthened his faith and passion for Christ and his people. He started to serve in Children’s Ministry in that church, doing one-on-one evangelism, organizing youth groups and doing missions with other churches, studying the Word with the Navigators and dedicating himself to initiating and promoting the youth ministry in the region.
He married Silvia in 1982, and they are blessed with three children: Anca Daniela (1984), Cristina-Mihaela (1987), and Daniel-Mircea (1990). He was involved in the local churches in Zalau and Cluj Napoca (Betania -Fourth Baptist Church), as a presbyter and then as a pastor. His ministry was focused all the time on discipleship and on forming leaders. At the same time, he was part of a BEE group and helped develop other small groups which he lead.
In 1990, along with a few colleagues, he started a business in software development, business which developed in other companies of various fields of activity (exterior commerce, transportation, retail, agriculture, office equipment, finance and banking). But, his passion for forming and equipping others made him choose to leave that secular job (as an executive), so le left his business position in 2000, keeping just stocks/shares in various companies.
From this moment on, he dedicates all his energy to his family and to the Kingdom of God. His commitment to his family is rewarded by all his children coming to accept Jesus as personal Lord and Savior, Anca – 2001, Cristina – 2002, and Daniel – 2008. His commitment to the Kingdom of God meant that he was involvement in the following: Betania Baptist Church; president of the Association for Sunday School Teachers for Children (2000-2008); regional coordinator for the Philip Project, at The Bible League (2002-2006); involvement in Christian Businessmen Association (2002-present); Dorcas Foundation; board member for EBE Foundation Romania; founding member of the BIG Impact Foundation.
Mitras serves as Manager for BIG-Impact and coordinator for the Christian businessmen who share the values of BIG network. As a manager, he is involved in the executive leadership of the organization, specifically in issues related to staff, finances, programs and partners of the Foundation. At the same time, he works at the creation of a core group of people who are passionate for God’s glory and enlarging his kingdom, hoping that this group will have an impact in the business/professional field.
